Ever since I said last week that I’d be preaching on Song of Songs, I’m sure you’ve been looking forward to all the lilies, pomegranates, nard and cinnamon. But I’ve changed my mind!! We’ll do that series later in the year. Today we begin a series on Colossians. Colossae was a city in Asia Minor, not far from the places we visited during our recent Acts series. Paul wrote to the new church there, to make them realise the full implications of having turned to the Lord Jesus Christ. It will be encouraging and informative for us.
This week we launch our annual Restoration Appeal, which provides an opportunity to give (tax-deductibly) toward the maintenance of our heritage property. In recent years it has enabled major work on our sandstone walls and replacing our slate roofs. I believe it is genuine Christian witness to demonstrate good stewardship of these buildings which the whole Randwick community enjoys looking at, and are welcome to enter!
Work is currently underway on our organ and a new Conservation Management Strategy. Further information is in the appeal letter, which regular members should shortly receive in the mail. (Please let the office know if you don’t receive one.)
Regular giving to church is not tax deductible, but is essential to the support of our week-to-week ministry. (Expenses such as minister salaries, general maintenance and administration costs cannot be paid from the Restoration Fund.)
On Tuesday evening I attended a rally in front of Parliament House in Macquarie St to support a private members’ bill to outlaw sex-selective abortion. (A recent study has shown the sad reality of babies being aborted in NSW because they are not the desired gender.) The bill proposes a limited and sensible restriction on abortions carried out purely because of a baby’s gender. Unfortunately, it may not have sufficient support to pass.
