Jesus’ Exciting Earthly Ministry

At the time of writing, the weather forecast is looking favourable for Saturday’s Fireworks. God-willing, we will have had another great evening of winter fun, marshmallows, and connecting with the Randwick community. Let’s pray that God will use these connections to draw hearts to Himself.

It must have been such an exciting time and place to be alive during Jesus’ earthly ministry. Today’s gospel account, from Matthew 9 and 10, records Jesus sending out his twelve apostles to announce that “the Kingdom of Heaven had drawn near”.  The life-giving, healing, restorative miracles performed by the apostles showed the type of kingdom Jesus was bringing. This was a kingdom in which all things would be made new, the curse lifted, and the prince of this world (the devil) expelled forever.

When we consider what they saw with their own eyes, it can be tempting to be envious of that generation. But then I remember that after they had experienced their amazing foretaste of the Kingdom in Jesus’ earthly ministry, they had to get back to the slog of life in this vale of tears, serving the Lord Jesus as they waited for his return.  In that respect, they are no different from us. We all need the “spiritual stamina” to continue trusting and obeying to the end, as we’ll be reminded from Colossians on Sunday.

On Thursday, 16th July, our choir will be singing at St Andrew’s Cathedral Evensong, at 5.15 pm. Why not plan to come and enjoy the service? The Cathedral is very easy to get to, being directly opposite Town Hall tram station. (These services are held regularly on Mondays and Thursdays. Our choir has been invited as special guests that day.)
