We can be extremely grateful to God for last Saturday’s Fireworks. Our prayers for good weather were answered amazingly: the night was perfectly clear, still, and cold without being bitter. Everyone had a safe and fun time around the campfires, enjoying the food and watching the fireworks.
In this event’s twenty-year history, this was easily the biggest attendance yet. A good estimate would be five hundred people. These were a mix of congregation members, family and friends we had invited, families from our Early Learning community, members of our ESL program, Kids’ Club and Youth, Randwick Public School and many from the general community.
We know for sure that we served five hundred sausages. One guest tagged us on Facebook as the only place he knows where your sausage sandwich comes with lettuce!
I want to recognise the hard work which went into the night by those who set up, manned the front gate, cooked the BBQ, served food, cleaned up, and of course set off the fireworks themselves (thanks Crispin and Maja!). Several people were so busy that they got to the end of the evening without having eaten at all.
This was a great team effort, through which hundreds of people were able to enjoy a great experience in our stunning grounds. My prayer is that these connections lead to more opportunities to share the Lord Jesus with our community, who – let us not forget – desperately need Him. I hope you will also continue to pray along those lines, as we seek to fill the church with disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
In brief:
- Our 4 pm congregation is holding one of our different events this afternoon. We are screening a Christian documentary, called Epic, which takes us to Israel, Italy, Australia and New Zealand in an exploration of how the gospel has spread over the last 2000 years. Please come along!
- EQUIP women’s conference is on this Saturday. We’ve already got a great group of St Jude’s women coming, so why not join them? Details on the back, or talk to Kat.
- Dedication Sunday, with a special combined service at 10.30 am followed by lunch, is on in two weeks’ time, Sunday 27th June.
