It was so good to have everyone together for our celebration service last Sunday. Around 90 people were gathered here for our special service. A big thank you to those who worked hard to set up and clean up after our very enjoyable lunch. There was a great spread as always! Thanks also to our kids’ leaders (particularly Emma, our link person with the CBS/Unichurch ministry) for moving the program to the morning for a week.
Could I recommend the current edition of the Southern Cross, our Sydney Diocese magazine. Here are some of its great features:
- An article about William Tyndale (c. 1494-1536), Bible translator and, with Shakespeare, a father of modern English, whom I referenced in last week’s sermon. This has been written by Rev. Dr Mark Earngey, who will be our speaker at this year’s Day Away on Saturday 12th
- The Archbishop has written about the friendship between Billy Graham and John Stott.
- Simon Miller, head of Anglicare, has written about love and the importance of everyone having a home.
- A collectors’ item: I was pleased to note that the name Frank Cash lives on in the academic prize at Youthworks college. Cash was well known as the rector at Lavender Bay who photographed the Harbour Bridge being built; he was also curate here at St Jude’s 1916-22.
There is lots of other encouraging material to stimulate and prompt us to prayer. Please take and read the Southern Cross. You can find it in the porch at church on Sundays. I’d love us to run out of copies.
