“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” -Galatians 6:9
There are a few reasons I can think of why doing good might begin to make us weary:
- Sometimes we lose sight of the value of the people we are doing good to.
- Sometimes repetition causes us to become bored with a task, even if we know it is good.
- Often taking the selfish option is just easier and more enjoyable in the moment.
But God’s word tell us that it doesn’t have to be this way, because God promises that the good we do isn’t just for the sake of it, it has a purpose, and at the proper time ‘will reap a harvest.’ It’s easy to tire of something if we don’t see that there’s any point to it, but God uses the good we do in his good purposes, so we can be sure it will never lose its value.
Dear God, please help us not to become weary of doing good. Help us instead to remember that at the proper time, the good we do will reap a harvest if we do not give up. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
