Thanks to everyone who participated in last week’s events with Jerome and Indra. I thought it was an encouraging time. The Science and Faith seminar has inspired me to run similar events in the future.
This Sunday in church we will complete the National Church Life Survey. While this does interrupt the flow of the service, I hope you will see it as important to participate in this important statistical work on the health of the church here in Randwick and Australia-wide.
It is a sad and troubling week in world affairs with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Even here, out of harm’s way, we feel the weight of these terrible events. We need to pray for those caught up in them. Wars, rumours of wars, and wild weather such as we have seen this week, make some Christians wonder whether the end is coming.
Don’t forget that Jesus said, “Such things must happen, but the end is still to come” (Matt. 24:6). These are not signs of the end times; they are the normal way of the sinful world. Humanity is not clever enough to have advanced beyond war, and we never will be. Our only hope is the One who will “make wars cease across the world, when he breaks the bow and shatters the spear” (Psalm 46:9).
