14th August 2022

This week is Mission Sunday. We welcome as special guests Philip and Jessica Van’t Spyker, who are visiting us from Yeppoon, Queensland, where they minister with BCA.

In a sense, every Sunday – indeed every day – is a day for mission, because we Christians are called to the life of mission on which Jesus sent his disciples. “As the Father sent me, so I send you” (John 20:21). Jesus was sent in order to win forgiveness of sins through his atoning death. We are sent to proclaim the news of his death and resurrection, so that people can put their faith in Jesus and receive forgiveness. Do you feel sent by Jesus? I hope that all of us will grow in that sense today.

Today’s focus is on Bush Church Aid, which has over 30 Field Staff and their families serving in almost every State and Territory in Australia, from Exmouth in Western Australia’s north west to Norfolk Island, Kununurra in the north to the Southern Beaches in Tasmania.

For over 100 years Bush Church Aid has been seeking to reach Australia for Christ. They partner with 19 Dioceses around the country and send people to serve in regional and remote churches through pastoral ministry, Indigenous ministry and developing and equipping leaders.

I hope you will commit to praying for BCA and the Van’t Spykers in particular. We are inviting a special donation of $5 a head for BCA for today’s special morning tea (or pot luck dinner after 4 pm). Of course, you may wish to give more, or to sign up to support BCA in an ongoing way.

Yours,
Andrew Schmidt
