FAITH DEVELOPMENT IN YOUNG CHILDREN
Infants (0-18 months) – the ‘key’ is trust.
Infants who experience a strong sense of trust in their primary caregivers (eg., mother, father or significant other) will generally have as their faith base an image of God as loving and constant.
Infants have special needs to be considered such as the way they like to be held.
Toddlers (18 months – 3 years) – the ‘key’ is self-esteem.
Young children who are given opportunities to make choices (within a safe environment) and encouraged to feel good about themselves and their choices, will have as their faith base an image of an accepting and caring God.
