MANAGING TANTRUMS WORKSHOP (1.6.2011) from the 'Triple P' Positive Parenting
Some of the issues discussed were:
Do I listen effectively to my child? How is conflict resolved in the home? How often do I really praise my partner and children? Am I teaching my children life skills / independent living skills / resilience? Are household tasks shared and rotated? Am I being a role model for the behaviour I expect from my child - ie., please/thank-you, tone of speaking? When did we last have a fun family outing/activity?
T.I.P.S. - Label a child's behaviour NOT the child - (children will live up to the label they are given ie., stupid, clumsy, aweful) and in time this affects their self-esteem).
